An Australasian medical conference is estimated to deliver 750 room nights and an economic impact of $335,000 for Auckland.
Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland will welcome medical leaders from across Australasia when it hosts The Royal Australasian College of Medical Administrators (RACMA) Conference this October.
The three-day event will be held at the Cordis Auckland from 11-13 October this year and is expected to attract 250 Specialist Medical Administrators and Clinical Leaders from across Australasia, including Aotearoa New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and India.
RACMA is a specialist medical college that provides education, training, knowledge and advice in medical leadership and management and is recognised by the Australian and New Zealand Medical Councils. Its members occupy a range of roles including Chief Executives, Chief Medical Officers, Director of Medical Services, Heads of Departments, as well as working in the university and defence sectors.
The conference, which is estimated to deliver 750 room nights and an economic impact of $335,000 for Auckland, was supported by Auckland Convention Bureau, (ACB), a division of Tātaki Auckland Unlimited.
Head of ACB Ken Pereira says: “This is an exceptional win for Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland and New Zealand, providing important training for our medical leaders, and an opportunity for crucial knowledge sharing and connections for our health sector. The opportunity to host these delegates also creates a positive economic impact for the region, including boosting the hospitality and accommodation sectors.”
RACMA Conference Committee Co-Chair Dr Andrew Simpson says: “This is the first time the event has been held in New Zealand since 2015. The theme for the conference reflects the challenges and innovations in medical leadership that New Zealand is currently experiencing.
“Speakers will present on issues including Equity in Action, Digital in Action and Change in Action. Workshops will focus on Cultural Safety, Restorative Health Systems, The Rural Medical Workforce and Advancing Women in Leadership.”
Simpson says delegates will get to experience presenters with expertise in various fields, with a particularly strong emphasis on Equity from the New Zealand contingent. Speakers will include the Health and Disability Commissioner NZ, Director General of Health-CE of Ministry of Health, Chair of Medical Council of NZ, Clinical Equity Lead Te Whatu Ora Waikato, and Chief Medical Officer Te Aka Whai Ora.
“The experience and knowledge of these professionals will assist medical practitioners across many jurisdictions.
“In addition, Australian and international delegates will get to experience Auckland and New Zealand and take advantage of its tourist attractions and activities.”
